Join our team!

We are looking for team members to work at Fernabelle Acres in Racine County. We hire as needed throughout the season with our biggest need being in April/May.

Outside, in the dirt, in the sun, in the rain, in the cooler, in the greenhouse, in the FLOWERS! We are a positive and inclusive work environment and we’re building a team that is welcoming to all sorts of people. You will gain experience and knowledge in all areas of cut flower cultivation and production, from seeding and planting to harvesting for our wholesale customers.

No experience is required. Just a willingness to learn all aspects of cut flower farming, and to work in all conditions. The work is physically demanding but so rewarding!

General duties:

  • Weeding (hand pulling, hoeing)

  • Keeping work spaces and tools clean and organized

  • Washing buckets

  • Soil and bed preparation

  • Planting seeds, bulbs, and plugs

  • Watering and irrigation

  • Harvesting and preparing cut flowers for cooler storage

  • Learning and using small farm equipment

Requirements:

  • Be able to bend over, crouch, kneel, and crawl on the ground for extended periods

  • Be able to lift up to 40 lbs on occasion (and sometimes repeatedly)

  • Work efficiently: unsupervised and as part of a team

  • Reliable transportation and appropriate clothing

  • Be adaptable to learn new tools, equipment, and methods

  • Communicate well, ask questions, and work safely

  • Deal with all sorts of weather conditions: hot, cold, rain, and sun

  • Have some work experience. We are not your first job.

Hours and availability:

We need people who can work 15-35 hours per week. Hours may be flexible – generally sometime 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM Monday to Friday. We may work earlier in the hottest weeks of summer. Weekend shifts may be available with enough crew interest.

The farm operates April through November. Hours are often part time once we hit October. Interested in partial season work while you’re in school/teaching/parenting? Contact us and we’ll see what works!
